TAGUIG CITY, Metro Manila–The Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) held its Partners’ Night on November 8, 2024, at Marquis Events Place, Bonifacio Global City, convening distinguished leaders and innovators from across the energy industry.
The event marked PNOC’s 51st anniversary, celebrating its partners’ contributions to advancing emerging technologies, energy efficiency, and social enterprise in underserved areas. With the theme “Three Arrows Strategy: Gaining Momentum,” the evening showcased how partnerships have driven groundbreaking initiatives, innovative solutions, and sustainable practices that benefit both communities and the environment.
PNOC President and CEO Oliver Butalid opened the event, underscoring the company’s progress and commitment to renewable energy projects, with new developments in solar and wind power as well as cost-reduction initiatives in off-grid areas.
Reflecting on the company’s anniversary celebration last year, Butalid emphasized the company’s continued focus on strengthening partnerships across four key pillars: collaboration with national government agencies; closer ties with local government units especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas; proactive outreach to local and international reputable energy players; and deepening linkages with institutional partners.
The event, inspired by the F1 racing theme, symbolized PNOC’s dedication to efficiency, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement—qualities crucial for success in the sector. “As we continue to navigate a dynamic and challenging energy landscape, PNOC must act quickly, remain nimble, adaptive, and be deeply committed to innovation. Continuous improvement will be key to our long-term success,” he noted.
Gracing the celebration were Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Raphael Perpetuo M. Lotilla and Assistant Secretary Kristine Joy Diaz-Teston, representing Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go.
In his opening remarks, Sec. Lotilla highlighted the Philippines’ commitment to sustainable, accessible energy that drives economic growth and equity. He also stressed the importance of regional collaboration within the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) to achieve shared energy goals.
“Looking outward, we want to continue our collaboration with the rest of the ASEAN countries in order to drive the common aspirations, not only in renewable energy, but in all aspects of energy, so that as a region, we can grow as one,” said the DOE chief.
Asec. Teston, spoke on behalf of Sec. Go, highlighted the administration’s commitment to the energy sector, emphasizing PNOC’s role in the Philippine energy industry.
She stated, “Through PNOC, we have the opportunity to create an incubator and accelerator for new players entering the Philippine market. By providing support and infrastructure for energy technologies, we can attract both local and international investors who are eager to contribute to our energy transformation.”
PNOC presented the “Partners Light” as a gesture of gratitude to more than 40 outstanding partners who have contributed to achieving the goals of the company. The token featured a design of an Offshore Wind turbine, representing the promising potential of renewable energy in the Philippines.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the evening included networking opportunities, allowing key actors to connect and discuss possible collaborations for the country’s energy advancement.
